All of us probably had one (or more than one) outstanding teacher who has made a huge impact on our school grades. When classes were enjoyable and interesting, lessons taught were easy to understand and absorb, even scoring for that particular subject was a breeze!

However, the teacher you have in mind is probably different from the one your peers had. You see, not all teachers/tutors are able to build a strong rapport with every single student in the classroom. Not that they are not great teachers, but it’s because every student, including your child, has a unique learning style and needs to meet the right kind of teacher who can spark interest and unleash his/her full potential to help him/her thrive in school.

By understanding your child’s psychological behaviour towards learning, we are able to then better customise our classroom activities and lesson materials that not only will help your child gain a new-found joy in learning Chinese, but also enable him/her to absorb and retain new Chinese characters, vocabulary and meanings better. For instance, allowing a kinesthetic learner to act out a scene in Chinese is more effective than making him/her read off a textbook on the same topic. By developing a whole set of teaching pedagogy catered for each learning type, you will finally see an improvement in your child’s interest level in Chinese, oral abilities and exam grades.

Our Teachers

Mr Ben Lee

Mr Ben Lee, who is currently pursuing a Master of Education degree, is a MOE instructor specialising in English and Chinese language and communication. He also holds a BSc Honours degree (Second Upper Class) and a bilingual diploma in Chinese Media & Communication. He is effectively bilingual and possesses more than half a decade worth of teaching experience having taught in both primary and secondary schools. He is a strong believer in child psychology and behavioural science and designs SLC’s pedagogy and curricula to boost student interest and motivation in English and Chinese subjects.

Ms Ma

Ms Ma, who majored in Chinese Studies, is a former school teacher with more than 10 years of teaching and curriculum development experience. An avid fan of Chinese literature, she seeks to simplify profound Chinese concepts and make Chinese learning fun, easy to comprehend and enjoyable for students. Steering the Chinese curriculum development at SLC, she designs multi-tiered learning materials for each primary/secondary level to suit students with varied levels of understanding of the Chinese subject.

Upper Primary Students

If learning Lower Primary Chinese is a walk in the park, then mastering Upper Primary Chinese will be a climb up the mountain. As your child progresses from Primary 4 to Primary 5/6, you may have seen a drastic drop in their Chinese exam grades because of the steep learning curve. With national exams around the corner, it is time for your child to seek the right help to do well in PSLE.

Lower Secondary Students

The higher demands of the new syllabus and exam format will really stress out any Secondary 1 or 2 students. Plus, with mid-year exams already removed for Secondary 1, students who don’t tend to do well under exam conditions will require the right help to prepare themselves for the demands of year-end exams.
